Addressing a Significant Unmet Medical Need
CorGene (Ad5FGF-4) is an investigational angiogenic gene biologic therapy designed for patients with refractory angina resulting from advanced coronary artery disease. These patients often continue to experience debilitating chest pain, reduced physical function, fatigue, and diminished quality of life despite receiving optimal medical therapy, stents, bypass surgery, or other interventions.
Unlike conventional treatments that focus on symptom management, CorGene is designed to improve blood flow in ischemic regions of the heart by stimulating the growth of new collateral blood vessels. This novel mechanism of action has the potential to restore cardiac perfusion in patients who have exhausted traditional treatment options.
Treatment Pathway
- Initial diagnosis of refractory angina by a cardiologist
- One-time treatment administered by an interventional cardiologist during an approximately one-hour, angiogram-like outpatient procedure
- Standard cardiac balloon catheter (wrist or leg access) used to deliver CorGene into the three major coronary arteries
- Cardiac preconditioning techniques utilized during delivery to enhance cellular uptake and transfection
- Therapeutic response expected within approximately two to four weeks following treatment
- Potential angiogenic perfusion improvements in certain patients that may approach those achieved through mechanical revascularization procedures such as PCI or CABG
